VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Can you help?

Vounteering is very important in the RSPCA and is the basis of much of the Society's work.  The branches are a vital part of what the RSPCA does at local level, being separately registered charities each run by their own voluntary branch committee.  Each branch is responsible for providing animal welfare services in their branch area.  For example,  they take in animals brought in by RSPCA inspectors, care for them and find new loving homes for them.  The branches also provide financial resources for veterinary treatment of sick and injured animals, and for boarding, neutering and vaccination of the animals before they go to new homes.

In order to support this expenditure on animal welfare, it's absolutely essential for the branches to maximise their income.  Peterborough & District Branch covers areas of high population and the demand for its services for animals is enormous.  At present the branch has three charity shops, two in Whittlesey and the other in Market Deeping, bringing in funds (see our shops page).  But the pressure is also on to make money in other ways, and this is dependent on the ideas the branch has for fundraising and vitally on how many people the branch has to help with this.  There is a list below of fundraising events arranged for 2012.  All funds raised are used locally to help animals in the branch area.

We are always looking for people to help the branch and there are all sorts of different ways in which volunteers can help.  From assisting with administration, to the all-important help with fundraising, to becoming a member of the home visiting team visiting the homes of people adopting animals from us, there are lots of opportunities for people to get involved.  Volunteers don't have to commit to giving lots of time - you can give as little or as much as you like.  All help is welcome, and the more people we have the more the work can be shared.

For people who might be interested in helping to run the branch, we are pleased to welcome potential committee members.  There are a number of different committee roles which our manager is happy to explain in more detail.  People who do become involved in running their local branch as a member of its committee find it a very satisfying thing to do and enjoy the responsibility and chance for skill development that it offers.

The potential is there in this programme for us to make quite a bit of money - the more people we can bring in to help us, the more we can make.  So come on in and join us - you will be helping to save and find new homes for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea-pigs, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, rats, birds, all sorts, and helping to provide veterinary treatment for animals in need.

If you would like to help, or would like to know more about the branch's activities, please contact our branch manager, Paul on 01733 222188 between 9am - 5pm (Mon-Fri).
